ACCESS SPECIALIST

POSITION SUMMARYNonexempt (Hourly - Eligible for overtime) To collect, analyze and record demographic, insurance/financial and clinical data accurately and to obtain other information and signatures necessary for scheduling, registration and billing.
To admit patients for hospital services.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSHigh School Diploma or GED required.
Work experience may substitute for minimum education requirement.
CORE JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND SKILLSMay provide secretarial and clerical support to department Overall Core Job Responsibilities ratings Scans admission papers and obtains signatures from patients, guarantors and/or witnesses.
Follows the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA) and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) regulations.
Collects co-pays and deductibles upfront.
If in Emergency Department, collects copays and deductibles at the time of discharge.
Follows policies on cash control established within the department.
Greets patients and collects/analyzes demographic data.
Verifies insurance, financial and other clinical data needed to register patients.
Screens patients for medical necessity clearance, pre-certification and financial clearance and follows policies that apply.
Mentors new employees and assists them with getting oriented to the department.
Attends all mandatory staff meetings and training classes.
